Lack of Spirituality

A living human being is a combination of body and soul. Our body can be seen and touched by others and if any part of our body is in pain, we run towards a doctor trying to find a cure for it. Intense care is taken by us about our bodily needs. We nourish our body times a day to keep it healthy.
Now what is soul ? Allah (SWT) tells us in the Quran:

And they ask you, [O Muhammad], about the soul. Say, "The soul is of the affair of my Lord. And mankind have not been given of knowledge except a little." [17:85]

So what we learn from this is that we don’t have knowledge about it but its presence is justified by this verse.

As our body needs constant nourishment our spirit (Rooh) also need constant nourishment but what is the nourishment of spirit. It is the Quran Indeed! As it follows from verse:

And We send down of the Qur'an that which is healing and mercy for the believers, but it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss.[17:82]

And abonding the Quran is the main cause of the spiritual lack. But how come a Muslim will abonden the Quran? The answer is the delusion of this present worldly life. You will never find a person who is lacking spirituality but his priorities in this life are gaining more and more wealth, status, bank balance, big mansion, a nice new model car, a big house etc , one can go on and on writing about causes of spirituality. How come spirituality will be gained if it’s not even the least important thing in your life? Selfishness, watching T.V, wasting time sitting in front of a computer, how come you will fulfill the spiritual gap?

Besides all of this , the lack of spirituality is the main cause of frustration among the youth, increased rate of suicide, rude behavior, intake of drugs because one suffering from it is unable to find the rest of mind. We know about many actors of Hollywood who committed suicide, my question why they did so? Didn’t they have the best comforts and pleasures this world can offer? Reason is very obvious the soul inside our body needs nourishment like our body and it is something we have to take care and think about ourselves and the only improvement can be brought if you reflect and understand Quran.

I would like to end up this article by the slaying of our Prophet Muhammad (SAW):
“Be in this world like a stranger or a traveler passing by” (Recorded in al-Bukhari)
