The Father of Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was desirous to establish an institution for promoting the commerce education in Khyber Pakhtun Khwa. In 1962, 14 years after the death of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, practical implementation was taken on his utmost desire when University of Peshawar established a college i.e. Quaid-e-Azam College of Commerce. QACC has a singular honor of having been established out of the funds bequeathed for this purpose by the Father of Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The foundation stone was laid down on 25th October 1962 by Mother of Nation, Madar-e-Millat Mohtarma Fatimah Jinnah.
The college is located at the heart of the beautiful campus of University of Peshawar. QACC was established to train the professionals with the solid aim of developing a skilled workforce to accelerate the balanced economic and social development of Pakistan. On 26th October 1962, the classes were formally commenced in the college. At that time, the college was housed in STC. It took 3 years in the completion of the commerce college building. In January 966, Commerce College was shifted from STC to its main building. At the very beginning, only 35 students took admission in the college but currently there are more than 600 students’ enrolled in the college. Out of thee 35 students, Mr. Syed Saad-ul-Hadi was the first student of QACC with ROLL No. 001, who received his B.Com (Hons) degree in 1966. Similarly, Ms. Shakira Bukhari was the first female student of QACC. She took admission in 1967.
QACC aims at imparting knowledge in broad based principles of commerce that is why in 1971, one year M.Com [program was started as per the need and requirement of that time. BBA and MBA programs were started in 1976 and 199 respectively and the college nomenclature changed to “Quaid-e-Azam College of Commerce & Business Administration”. Later on in the decade of 1980s, BBA and MBA were shifted to Institute of Management Studies and the college nomenclature was again changed back to “Quaid-e-Azam College of Commerce”. Two years M.Com program was started in 1997, followed by four years BS Commerce program in 2009 and Masters in Human Resource Management in 2012. All these steps are taken to develop a strong foundation for the prospective managers in the functional areas of business.
Prof. Mehmood Ahmed Qureshi was the first Principal of QACC from 25th October 1962 to August 1964. After his retirement, Prof. Abdul Mateen took the responsibilities as an acting Principal from August 1964 to December 1964. Then Prof. Abdul Malik Hashmi took the charge of Principal on 1st January 1965 and remained at this post for 25 years i.e. 31st December 1989. On 1st January 1990, Prof. Abdul Kafeel Siddique took the charge and fulfilled all the demands of the college till the date of his retirement i.e. 20th December 1999. Prof. Rasheed Ahmed Ghauri becomes the Principal from 21st December 1999 to 22nd September 2002 followed by Prof. ikthyar Muhammad who took the charge from 12th November 2002 to 31st March 2008. He graduated from the same college and he was in the first batch of M.Com. And currently Prof. Syed Muhammad Abbas is the Principal of college. He took the charge on 1st April 2008. He is performing his duties and fulfilling the needs of college with full devotion.
QACC Golden Jubilee 1The students graduated from QACC also served the college as a Lecturer i.e. Prof. Ikhtiyar Muhammad, Musawwar Khan, Saadatullah Kakakhel, Abdul Wahid, Syed Ahmed Naqvi and Muhammad Haroon. Syed Muhammad Abbas, Yorid Ahsan Zia, Ilyas Sharif, Aysha Sami Latif, Romana Sarwar, Aurang-zeb, Taimur Ashiq and Ghulam Farooq are those talented graduates of QACC who are currently serving QACC as a Lecturer. Our graduates are also serving other educational institutions. Dr. Farzand Ali Jan is currently Professor at Hazara University and Naik Muhammad is serving University of Engineering and Technology (Peshawar) as Treasurer, Iftikhar Hussain Khan as Treasurer in University of Peshawar, Zahid Gul as Additional Treasurer in University of Peshawar, Ms. Ayesha as Deputy Treasurer in University of Peshawar, Yorid Ahsan Zia and Muhammad Haroon as Deputy Controller Examinations University of Peshawar.
Asfandyaar Wali Khan (President Awami National Party), Syed Qamar Abbas (Late) (Prominent Leader, PPP, Ex Provisional Minister), Mohammad Shakir  Siddiqui (Prominent Business Man, Member Board of Directors, BOK), Kabeer Khan (Former Cricketer, Pakistan Cricket Team), Muhammad Ismail (Badminton Player), Mian Mohammad Ishfaq (Principal Government Commerce College Mansehra), Prof. Shakeel Ahmad (Director General, Technical Education, KPK), Dr. Faizan ur Rehman (Chief Instructor, National Institute of Management Peshawar), Mohammad Ali (Principal Government Commerce College Mardan 1), Ms. Shakira Bukhari (Ex- Principal Government Girls Commerce College, Peshawar), Ghulam Hussain (Former Secretary, S & GAD K.P.K), Dr. Mohsin Khan (Joint Director, IM Sciences), Amjad Pervaiz (Ex-Director BOK, Currently ADVISOR at Pearl Securities Limited), Mohammad Ilyas Farooqi (Director, Muslim College of Commerce, Peshawar), Prof. Rehmat Nabi (Former Principal Government Commerce College, Peshawar), Prof. Muhammad Sarwar Khan (Former Director Finance UET Peshawar), Hafiz Abdul Hayee (Additional Secretary Finance, Federal Government), Mohammad Faheem (DG PIFRA, Islamabad), Ghulam Kibriya Khaki (Former Director Finance EOBI), Imran Saeed (EVP, Group head Credit Management Group Bank of Khyber) and Naseeb Zaman (Director Finance, NEPRA) are some of the shining stars of QACC who not only served the Nation but are also fulfilling the demands of socio-economic development of country.
Steps were taken to taken by the college management to transform the old fashioned themed infrastructure of college to newly fashion, equipped with modern technological advancements. So, the renovation of college building and computer labs was carried out during 2007 to 2008.
To make the students more perfect in their practical field of interest, different academic activities other than regular classes are continuously being carried out in the college that includes critical thinking, seminars, quiz competitions, workshops, speech competitions, business plan competitions, sports events and awareness campaigns different social and economic issues. Quaidonians Awareness Society of QACC organized a visit to an orphanage home ‘Dar-ul-Atfal’ on 6th October 2011. Similarly, QACC Table Tennis Team (i.e. Shams-ud-Din, Omer Irfan and Qamar Zaman) stood 2nd position in the Inter Colleges Tournament 2012. The winners of QACC Business Plan Competition were sponsored for a 6 Days residential ‘Young leaders Conference 2011’ in Karachi, conducted by School of Leadership. As research is the urgency of present time, all the faculty members of QACC are deep focused on research activities and they are being provided with research facilities.
QACC Golden Jubilee 2With the slogan of ‘Transforming Lives as we go Miles’, QACC started arrangement to celebrate its Golden Jubilee, the 50 years of excellence in which not only the current faculty members and students contributed their efforts but also the former graduates contributed their valuable time and efforts to celebrate this event with immense pleasure and joyously, making it successful and memorable. For this purpose an organizing committee was set up to deal in all necessary arrangements regarding the Golden Jubilee event. The committee consisting of faculty/students was constituted by the honorable Principal ‘Syed Muhammad Abbas’ to organize the whole function. Yorid Ahsan Zia, Aqsa Siddiq, Hamid Ali Shah, Qamar Ishtiaq, Faheemullah Qureshi, Aysha Sami Latif, Romana Sarwar, Munazza Salim, Aurang-zeb, Taimur Ashiq, Ghulam Farooq Khan, Sikandar Rehman, Jamal Ahmed, Ilyas Sharif, Syed Muhammad Majid Shah, Fasial Khan and Shahleela Khan were from the faculty while Farid Nawaz, Omer Irfan, Naheed Hussain, Fatima Orakzai, Jamroz Khan, Saima Karim, Rashid Ahmed, Murad-ur-Rahman, Imran Ali Khan, Muhammad Nabeel and Shahi Raz Akhtar were the students who participated in this committee.
On the occasion of Golden Jubilee, QACC arranged ALL PAKISTAN URDU MUSHAIRA on 14th November 2012 held at the college auditorium that was presided over by a renowed poet Sarfaraz Shahid while Dr. Inam ul Haq was the chief guest. A large number of present and old students attended the Mushaira. The posts included Sajjad Babar, Saleem Akhtar, Jawad Hassan Jawad, Nasir Ali Syed, mushtaq Shabab, Muhammad Arif, Dr. Mazhar Hassan, Zegham Hassan, Dr. Nazir Tabassum and Brig. (Retd.) Saad ul Hadi, the first student and graduate of QACC, also presented their wonderful poems on the occasion. The students took intense interest and got enthralled by the humorous poetry of the poets. The honorable Principle, Syed Muhammad Abbas gave special shield to one of the first students of the college Brig. Saad ul Hadi and showed his gratitude towards him for playing a key role in the arrangement of Urdu Mushaira for the Golden Jubilee.
A formal function for the celebration of 50 years of the establishment of QACC was also organized that includes a grand dinner for the students, alumni’s and faculty of QACC on the same day, the 14th of November 2012 at 06:00 PM.
On this prestigious occasion of Golden Jubilee, the Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar ‘Prof. Dr. Qibla Ayaz’, former Principals, Alumni’s and present students were invited. The function was formally inaugurated with the beautiful recitation of Holy Quran by Ahsan Iqbal (M.Com 2nd Semester). The honorable Principal ‘Syed Muhammad Abbas’ welcomed all the guests on occasion and enlighten the Golden Jubilee of QACC with his precious welcoming words. After the welcome speech of the Principal, Mr. Yorid Ahsan Zia presented the ‘The Journey of QACC 1962-2012’ that included the glimpses of past, the present activities and the future prospects of QACC to recollect some nostalgic moments from this half century voyage.
The former Principal, Prof. Abdul Malik hashmi who served this institute for 25 years, shared his experiences while serving the institute in his era. He reminded the audience about the Silver Jubilee of QACC that was celebrated in 1987 and called one of the old graduates in the audience to stand on his place and thanked him for all the arrangements he did with devotion for the celebration of Silver Jubilee. He mentioned that the first female student of the college, Ms. Shakira Bukhari is the role model for the girls currently learning the commerce education. He also said that “1980s was the ‘decade of dormancy’ because BBA and MBA were shifted to Institute of Management Studies but still I am happy that college has introduced new programs and specialization courses in the sphere of commerce.
Prof. Abdul Kafeel Siddique, the former Principal said that it was the memorable moment and an honor for him to meet Madar-e-Millat Mohtarma Fatimah Jinnah on 19th October 1962 at her resident place Staff House (Karachi) to remind her about the desire of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah for a commerce institution in Khyber Pakhtun Khwa. He added that tremendous changes in the college edifice and also the different courses designed by the present Principal and his colleagues are fantastic developments in the realm of business administration courses.
These esteemed personalities have enabled QACC to reach its present excellence of standards and achievements. They guided the college with dedication and veneration.
50 Years of QACCOne of the former students, Mr. Sarwar Khan shared his experience about the time he spent in this college. Further, Shams-ud-din (current student) shared his splendid and humorous thoughts about his experiences being a student of QACC.
Thereafter, token of appreciation was given to all such people who are the pride of QACC and their effort, dedication and hard work made QACC a successful entity. Prof. Dr. Abdul Qayyum Khan (Dean of Faculty of Management & Information Sciences) and Principal QACC ‘Syed Muhammad Abbas’ distributed the shields to ‘former supporting staff’ i.e. Rahmad Shah (Naib Qasid), Jan Muhammad(Naib Qasid), Haji Muhammad Ibrahim (library Attendent), Saeed Ahmad (Librarian), Kewal Maseeh (Sweeper); and ‘former faculty members’ i.e. Muhammad Haroon, Syed Ahmad Naqvi, badar-uz-Zaman Khalil, Syed Sajjad hussain, Muhammad Irshad, Azhar Saleem Sheikh, Abdul Wahid, Saadat-ullah Kakakhel and Muhammad Sarwar Khan who contributed their valuable effort on the field of education.
The honorable Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar ‘Prof. Dr. Qibla Ayaz’ and ‘Syed Muhammad Abbas’ Principal QACC distributed shields to the former Principals for their visionary leadership and support to this institute. Prof. ikhtyar Muhammad, Prof. Rashid Ahmed Ghori, Prof. Abdul Kafeel Siddique, Prof. Abdul Malik Hashmi and Prof. Dr. Abdul Qayyum Khan (Dean of Faculty of Management & Information Sciences) received their shields. The last shield was presented to the Chief Guest, Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar ‘Prof. Dr. Qibla Ayaz’ by Prof. Abdul Malik Hashmi along with ‘Syed Muhammad Abbas’ Principal QACC.
After receiving the token of appreciation, ‘Prof. Dr. Qibla Ayaz’ shared his precious words about their auspicious ceremony. With reference to the Verses of the Holy Quran, he addressed the audience about the importance of commerce in our daily life.
Later on, ‘Syed Muhammad Abbas’ Principal QACC concluded the event and thanked all the guests for attending the ceremony and making this a memorable event in the history of QACC and requested the audience for the Grand Dinner.
It is the mission of QAC to provide competent managers, entrepreneurs and academics with sound knowledge and equipped with analytical tools required in today’s highly competitive world of COMMERCE and INDUSTRY to provide opportunity to explore new business horizons by enabling them to make optimal business decisions. QACC has played a gigantic role in the balanced development of commerce and business education to a great extent. The graduates of QACC are playing a vital role in both the public and private sectors of the country.
