Let Us Rise

I am not new to this land of a glorious past; for the wind narrates the achievements of the days, gone. And certainly, I am not new to smell the aura of dignity and valour that once was the legacy of my forefathers; for my heart still beats, on the name of this beauteous land.

Long ago, but not long enough to corrode my love and passion, we - the Muslims of subcontinent on 14th august, 1947 were given an independent recognition of our own in the form of Pakistan, that subsequently ended 35 years of British rule over the subcontinent. It would not be futile to name it, 'the land of sacrifices'.

Like every other nation across the globe, Pakistanis celebrate their Independence with all the enthusiasm. The 14th of August is a national holiday in Pakistan and the day is celebrated all over the country with flag raising ceremonies, tributes to the national heroes and fireworks. People; particularly youth, paint Pakistani flags on their faces to express their love for this homeland. Wearing green and while shalwar, kameez and choorian (bangles) is yet another beautiful way of expression of affection. At almost every house, a Pakistani flag is raised. This, is undoubtedly the most spectacular moment of solidarity one can ever witness being a passionate citizen.

66 years have almost passed. But this day is still enjoyed and rejoiced like ever before. Pakistan, nowadays is facing many challenges yet the citizens are hopeful. Once, a Merchant came to Allama Iqbal asking for some help, complaining, that he was bankrupt.
Allama Iqbal said, “As long as a man has two hands, he can never be bankrupt”

We, Pakistanis are a nation of 1700 million people with 3400 million hands, with a soil of talent, with mighty rivers, sky-kissing Himalayas, with mines from coal to diamond. We indeed are blessed to have such a country with natural resources and all four seasons.

A Day of Independence is not merely a day of celebration but a pledge, a promise to glorify a land which was taken in the name of Islam. It is a day to reflect, that we still owe our forefathers for enduring pain, for offering their wealth, lives and everything in the name of a separate homeland.

Let’s not forget our majestic past.
Let’s not let the pains go unrewarded.
Let’s unite again, for
The great are great only because we are on our knees. Let us rise”

Lets recall once again that We are not new to this land of a glorious past; for the wind narrates the achievements of the days, gone.
And certainly, we are not new to smell the aura of dignity and valor that once was the legacy of our forefathers; for my heart still beats, on the name of this beauteous land.
Long Live Pakistan!
